SKY CALENDAR · LOOK AT THE STARS

Make a night
of it.

Sky Calendar helps you decide when to look up. Explore meteor showers, planet viewing times and satellite passes for your observing place, then build your next night outside around something you want to see.

A SIMPLE WAY TO BEGIN

How Sky Calendar helps you explore.

  1. Pick something worth looking for

Browse events and viewing opportunities for meteor showers, planets and satellites. Choose an event or object that interests you.

  2. Check the timing for your place

Look at the viewing details for your observing place. The useful time for one place may be different from the time for another.

  3. Leave time to get outside

For an ISS pass, set a reminder before it begins. Choose your observing spot ahead of time, then check the conditions before heading out.

MORE THAN A DATE ON A CALENDAR

Find a reason
to look up.

Meteor showers

Explore the app’s observing guide and review the event details before choosing a night to watch. A shower gives you a reason to make time for the sky; the guide helps you put that plan into context.

Planets and satellite passes

Find viewing opportunities for planets and passes overhead. An ISS reminder helps you prepare before a pass instead of discovering it after the moment has gone.

Your observing place matters

Use the details for the place where you intend to watch. Then consider the view from that spot: buildings, trees, clouds and bright lights can affect your experience even when an event is listed.

INSIDE THE APP

Know what the
timing means.

The Orionids example shows how the app presents an event’s viewing time and a viewing rating together. It is an example from an app capture, not a current recommendation for your location.

For a lunar eclipse, take the next step with visibility maps and local eclipse stages. For help finding your way around the stars before you go, explore the My Sky star map.
